Is it better to have a .com or .co.uk website?
For a trade that works in Luton and Bedfordshire, .co.uk. It tells a customer, and a search engine, that you are a UK business before they have read a word of the page.
When .com makes sense
If you sell to customers outside the UK, or the .co.uk of your business name already belongs to someone else and you would rather keep the name than change it. A .com is not wrong. It is just not saying anything about where you are, and for a local trade, where you are is the point.
What matters more than the ending
Whose name it is registered in. We register your domain in your name, not ours, so it is yours to keep, move or point wherever you like. Ask any designer the same question before you sign.
Whether it matches the name on your van and your invoices. A customer who has seen your name once should be able to type it and land on you. Keep it short, spell it the way you say it, and avoid hyphens if you can.
What it costs
A .co.uk renews at about £12 a year, paid by you, in your name. That is the only recurring cost of a domain, and it does not change whether the site is with us or anywhere else.
